New Message Notifications seem to go back too far

I think the time these apply to seems far too great.

I don’t really care about 600+ new messages when I return to the site after a day or two or even a week later. But I do care about 5 new messages that have come in since I opened the site 10 mins ago. Is there a way to scope these notifications closer to your active session? I think the notifications would be more valuable like that.

This might be more linked to treating what we knew as ‘channels’ as groups. When I joined a channel, i felt like I could leave it and return to see what had happened. When I join a group it feels like I’m in there… forever. Maybe I’m thinking about that too hard but it does feel different to me.
