Switching Tabs Disconnects you

I use this on Safari on my iPhone. Sometimes on my iPad. If I am having a private chat with a user (not in any main lobby, just private) and I switch apps for a second, like to reply to text and come back, it disconnects me from that private chat. Users say my profile disappears and the window closes. When I come back to the tab it doesn’t always regenerate and I have to refresh the whole thing and sign in again.

Is there a fix for this?
